US Postpones Trade Meetings with EU (04/08/08) Written by: newswriter
The US announced a postponement to negotiations with the EU representatives. The talks between the sides were scheduled and the EU delegation was about to discuss online gambling and the stance of the current US administration, which in the EU`s view is in violation of World Trade Organization treaty.

The trade talks, scheduled for early August, were put on hold with little advance notice by officials of the US Trade Representative's office. This was the same federal agency that sent a curt two-page rebuttal to an extensive EU fact-finding inquiry that attempted to probe the exact reasons for the US's stance against international online gambling, including the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and
PokerKings
the US's unilateral withdrawal from its related WTO commitments. While the USTR was only one of several government agencies contacted about online gambling, its response seemingly superceded that of other agencies approached by the EU.

For its part, the USTR office is increasingly under siege from several quarters regarding its trade stance. The USTR's recent talks with online-gambling haven Antigua & Barbuda ended in an impasse, and the agency has not yet responded to Congressional calls to release the specific terms of earlier agreements made with the EU, Canada and other countries related to its previous WTO battle with Antigua. All this comes as the UIGEA itself has floundered amid its own undefined terminology and the increasing and bipartisan pressure against the unfunded mandate on US businesses called for by UIGEA rules.

Impasse Remains in Antigua/US Gambling Trade Dispute (21/07/08) Written by: newswriter
Antiquan and United States officials concluded, after another round of talks between countries officials, that these two sides aren`t getting any closer to resolving their World Trade Organization conflict over online gambling.

A six-member delegation from the United States, led by US Trade Representative John K. Veroneau, traveled to Antigua to continue negotiations surrounding Antigua's victory in a landmark WTO case, which saw the island nation awarded a $21 million annual judgement for just one segment of its online-gambling market, that connected to horseracing. The US, for its part, abandoned its appeal in the case after years of delays, then announced its intent to withdraw from that section of its WTO
Bodog
agreements. While technically losing the case, it left Antigua only two options: to attempt to continue negotiations with the United States to find a mutually acceptable settlement, or to begin production of goods otherwise protected by US intellectual-property rights, a solution outlined under the WTO's judgment.

Will the WSOP Stem the Losses on the Strip? (16/07/08) Written by: newswriter
The Las Vegas tournament was held in the spring, prior to Harrah's acquisition of the WSOP. Harrah's shifted the large-drawing event closer to the summer, a traditionally slow period for the desert gaming locale. But with a sluggish start to the 2008 and a disastrous May in their rearview mirror, the Las Vegas casino industry is wondering whether the WSOP will be enough to stem revenue losses in June.

Absolute Pokers Bad beat jackpot Soon over $1 million (28/06/08) Written by: Pokerforall
Just one year of anniversary of the record setting bad beat jackpot at Absolute Poker, the online poker room shattered their own record for the largest jackpot ever awarded.

“We’re hitting milestones, breaking records and making ordinary poker players extraordinarily rich,” stated an Absolute Poker spokesperson. “Bad Beat Jackpot continues to attract an enormous number of poker players to Absolute Poker and we can’t wait to beat the industry record we just set once again.”

Sunday night RIVERMAN1969 lost a hand with quad tens against the quad queens of BFOXY. His misfortune gave him the loser’s share, 32.5%, of the $996,115.28 total jackpot amount which worked out to $325,212.40. For laying the bad beat BFOXY earned 16.25% ($163,343.67) while the other players at the table each received $1,000.

The remaining money, minus the house fee of 10%, was divided among the 88 players playing the same game type and limit at the time.

No international Poker Network for Scandinavien Companies (28/06/08) Written by: Pokerforall
Sweden's Finance Minister, Anders Borg, has refused permission for Svenska Spel to create an international poker network with other state-controlled gaming companies, despite it being a recommendation of the governments own report on online poker.

The justification for the government's initial recommendation was that by combining their players, state-run sites could increase liquidity and offer tournaments with significantly larger prize pools, thereby attracting players away from the 'less socially responsible' private operators.
Svenska Spel has also been told that it must improve the information that it gives customers to include features such as a profit and loss account to help them understand their playing history, similar to the tools already offered by private operators such as Betfair.

Danish gambling monopoly challenged? (27/06/08) Written by: Pokerforall
Denmark's entrenched gambling monopoly through Danske Spil is not only being challenged by politicians. It transpired this week that the state-owned broadcaster TV2 has found a loophole in the national gaming laws that allows it to provide cash payouts to winners of its online skill games.

Lars Bernt the director of TV2 commented to the Copenhagen Post newspaper this week: "We've looked into the legalities of this together with gaming officials. They differentiate between games of chance, which are covered by the monopoly, and games of skill, which are not."

After have found this loophole, Tv2 created a website offering 12 different games such as backgammon, golf and pool.

The state owns 80 percent of the shares in Danske Spil. The rest are held by two national sports organisations.

TV2 expect that the discovery of the loophole will result in a flood of new game providers based in denmark. One of those is Ladbrokes, wich has lost cases against the Danish state sekking to liberalise Danish gambling laws to bring the country into compliance with eu requirements.

Nat Arem is afraid about 60 minutes document (25/06/08) Written by: newswriter
As u all know, recently 60 minutes has started to make a document about the harm of online poker. The document is going to handle about the cheating in Absolute poker. A "little" briefing of this all for those who dont know what happened in Absolute poker:

Some opponents on Absolute poker became suspicious of how a certain player was playing. He seemed to know what the opponents hole cards were. The suspicious players provided examples of these hands, which were so outrageous that virtually all serious poker players were convinced that cheating had occurred. One of the players who’d been cheated requested that Absolute Poker provide hand histories from the tournament (which is standard practice for online sites). In this case, Absolute Poker “accidentally” did not send the usual hand histories, but instead sent a file that contained all sorts of private information that the poker site would never release. The file contained every player’s hole cards, observations of the tables, and even the IP addresses of every person playing. After the player got this information he send this file to the other players and everyone started to analyzing the data, not the hand histories themselves, but other. More subtle information Contained in the file. What these players started notice was that there where a observer that allways was in the same table as the cheater, as u know a observer can follow the players during the cash game or tournament but cant see their holding cards. But this observer could, cause he was allways in the same table. The players tracked his ip and account name and found out that is was absolute pokers Scott Tom's account(the part owner of Absolute poker). If all of this is correct, it shows exactly how the cheating would have transpired. an insider at the Web site had real-time access to all of the hole cards.

Okay thats the story. The 60 minutes is going to do a story about this and try convince people that all poker sites are the same and internet poker is bad for everyone. But the truth is that there are much more trusthworthy sites.

Nat arem thinks:"I should point out that I do not think that 60 Minutes is saying to themselves: “Let’s see how we can completely rip these people apart and draw as much negative attention as possible.” I think 60 Minutes will probably do a pretty good job (they’re good at what they do) and show a fair representation of what happened at AP and UB. The problem is, the public who watches the show and any politicians who see it will sit there and be like “well then, I knew it was dangerous to Americans, online poker is bad” — they won’t be able to differentiate between the PokerStars/Full Tilt Pokers of the world and the sites that are not being run correctly."

Razor Wins his second Bracelet! (25/06/08) Written by: newswriter
The event 40 is over. John "Razor" Phan has done something what few could ever do, he has won his second bracelet in a single year. And many are suggesting that he has set a record on this, beacause noone has ever won two bracelets in one week.

Phan started the heads-up match even but it didn't take long for the razer to take a big lead to his opponent. The first two big pots came to his way and his opponent Shun Uchida fought to keep his tournament going. But with $90,000 chips left, and the limits of $25,000/$50,000 it didn't take long for the razer to figure out what to do.

As the final hand was finally over Phan grabbed his bracelet and ordered 20 coronas for everyone in attendance.

John Phan took one more bracelet home and first pricesize of $151,896 and Shun Uchida took home $95,795

Doyle Brunson names in his new blog top 5 poker players that he has seen abusing dealers. The only living player at this top 5 is Sammy Farha. "He is unbelievable at times. He talks softly but is very abusive with his language." The next name that he names is Puggy Pearson. "I remember at the old Dunes card room, he got into a fight with a lady dealer name Kim. When a male dealer jumped in to hold Pug back, Kim took off her high heel shoe and was beating Puggy on the head. We laughed about that for years." "Shoeshine" Nick Simpson was one the worst players that he names on his blog. "He once urinated under the table on an unsuspecting dealer" And one his last players is "nigger nate" Lanetter. "I’m not being racist, that is what everyone called him. He once bit a dealer’s ear off at the Stardust. He came back the next day and gave the poor guy $5,000. That was a lot of money in those days." After theese players he mentioned Johnny Chan but now claims that he has reformed over the past few year.
